With the American Civil War over, the artillery enthusiasts of the Baltimore Gun Club need a new project and resolve to fire a manned projectile at the Moon from a colossal cannon. As they raise funds and choose a launch site in Florida, an adventurous Frenchman volunteers to ride inside the shell.
