Jules Verne was a French novelist born in Nantes in 1828 who became one of the founding figures of science fiction literature. His celebrated Voyages Extraordinaires series took readers on imaginative journeys to the depths of the sea, the center of the earth, and around the world, anticipating technologies that did not yet exist. He remains one of the most translated authors in history and died in Amiens in 1905.
