Alexander Ivanovich Herzen was a Russian author, philosopher, and revolutionary who is recognized as a precursor of Russian socialism and agrarian populism. He wrote extensively while exiled in London, aiming to influence events in Russia and contributing to the political environment that led to the emancipation of the serfs in 1861. His social novel Who is to Blame? and his autobiography My Past and Thoughts are among his most notable works. He was born in 1812 and died in 1870.
