Beverly Cleary was an American children's author born in 1916 in McMinnville, Oregon, who became one of the most beloved writers of the twentieth century. She is best known for creating the Ramona Quimby series, whose spirited young protagonist resonated with generations of young readers across the world. Cleary received numerous honors throughout her career, including the Newbery Medal, and continued to be celebrated until her death in 2021 at the age of 104.
