Erle Stanley Gardner
1889–1970·American
Erle Stanley Gardner was an American attorney and prolific crime fiction writer born in Malden, Massachusetts in 1889. He is best known for creating Perry Mason, the resourceful criminal defense lawyer at the center of a long-running series of mystery novels that began in 1933. Gardner's courtroom-driven plots drew on his legal background and made him one of the best-selling American authors of the twentieth century before his death in 1970.
