Abu al-Qasim Mahmud ibn Umar al-Zamakhshari was a medieval Muslim scholar of Iranian descent. He travelled to Mecca and settled there for five years, earning the title 'Jar Allah'. He was a Mu'tazilite theologian, linguist, poet, and Quran interpreter, best known for his work Al-Kashshaf, a linguistic analysis of Quranic expressions. His scholarship influenced major linguists and remains a primary source for understanding Quranic language.
