About “Muqaddimat al-Adab”
The Muqaddimat al-Adab is a Persian and Chagatai dictionary written by Al-Zamakhshari in the 12th century to teach Arabic. In the 14th century, Mongolian was added to the dictionary. The first manuscript was discovered in Bukhara by Abdurauf Fitrat. The oldest surviving copies date from the 13th to 15th centuries. The work includes information about the dialects of the Oghuz, Kipchak, and Kangly Turks and was used as a textbook in madrasahs. It is considered one of the most important works after Dīwān Lughāt al-Turk for the Middle Turkic period and was also significant for the Mongolian language in the 14th century.
