Όμηρος

2 series 4 books in order 1 standalone book

Homer is the reputed author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, two foundational works of ancient Greek literature known as the Homeric epics. The Iliad consists of 15,693 lines and recounts the final fifty-one days of the Trojan War, which, according to myth, lasted ten years. The Odyssey consists of 12,110 lines and describes the ten-year struggle of Odysseus to return home to Ithaca after the war. The texts are written in Homeric Greek, a literary language that combines features of the Ionic and Aeolic dialects, with a primary influence from Eastern Ionic. Most researchers believe the poems were originally transmitted orally. No reliable biographical information about Homer exists from classical antiquity, and the poems reflect a long tradition of oral storytelling.
