Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov was a Russian writer, medical doctor, and playwright who lived from 15 May 1891 to 10 March 1940. He was active in the first half of the 20th century and is most recognized for his novel The Master and Margarita, which was published after his death. The novel is regarded as one of the masterpieces of the 20th century. Bulgakov's work is highly esteemed in Russian literature.
