About “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a 1964 children's novel by British author Roald Dahl. The story follows young Charlie Bucket as he explores the chocolate factory of the eccentric Willy Wonka. The book was first published in the United States by Alfred A. Knopf, Inc. in 1964 and in the United Kingdom by George Allen & Unwin 11 months later. The novel was recognized in a 2012 survey by SLJ, a U.S.-focused publication, as the second of four Dahl books among the Top 100 Chapter Books. It was also named one of the 100 Best Young-Adult Books of All Time by Time magazine.
