About “Cyropaedia”

The Cyropaedia is a partly fictional biography of Cyrus the Great, the founder of the Achaemenid Empire. Written around 370 BC by Xenophon, an Athenian soldier, historian, and student of Socrates, the work is also known as The Education of Cyrus. The title comes from the Greek Kúrou paideía, meaning "the education of Cyrus." The Cyropaedia served as a model for medieval writings on leadership and influenced later political thought. It strongly impacted Machiavelli's The Prince, which marked a shift from medieval political ideas to modern political theory. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
