Doctor Sleep is a 2013 novel by Stephen King. It follows Dan Torrance, now middle-aged, who must protect a twelve-year-old girl named Abra Stone from a group called The True Knot. These people travel across America in RVs and feed on the "steam" produced by children with the "shining," a psychic ability. Dan, who survived a traumatic childhood at the Overlook Hotel, has been trying to escape his past. He now lives in a New Hampshire town, works at a nursing home, and helps the dying with his remaining psychic powers. He is aided by a cat that seems to sense things. When he meets Abra, whose shining is the strongest he has ever seen, he is forced to confront his past and fight to save her from The True Knot.
