About “Double Star”
Lorenzo Smythe, a down-and-out actor, was drinking in a bar when a space pilot bought him a drink. Soon after, he was taken to Mars and forced to take on the role of an important politician who had been kidnapped. The success of his impersonation was crucial to maintaining peace with the Martians, and failure could lead to war. Smythe's life was also at risk, as he could be killed or trapped in the role forever. This 1956 novel by Robert A. Heinlein follows his unexpected journey into a high-stakes impersonation.
