Stranger in a Strange Land is a 1961 science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein. The story follows Valentine Michael Smith, a human who was born on Mars and raised by Martians before arriving on Earth in his early adulthood. The novel examines how Smith interacts with and changes human culture. The title references a phrase from Exodus 2:22. Heinlein originally called the book The Heretic. Some editions describe it as "The most famous Science Fiction Novel ever written."
