About “Dubliners”

James Joyce's Dubliners, published in 1914, is a collection of fifteen short stories that depict life in Dublin at the turn of the 20th century. Joyce fought with publishers to keep the stories unaltered, including explicit language and real names, believing that changing the work would hinder progress in Ireland. His goal was to show the truth of Irish life, revealing its struggles and leading to spiritual awakening. Each story offers a glimpse into the lives of ordinary Dubliners, exploring themes such as lost innocence and missed opportunities. The stories are grouped into four categories: childhood, adolescence, maturity, and public life. Notable stories include "The Sisters," "Araby," "Eveline," "The Dead," and others.
