Fourth Grade Rats is a story about a fourth grader named Suds who feels pressure to act tough like the other fourth graders, who are described as unafraid of spiders, disobedient to their mothers, and aggressive toward younger children. Suds struggles to fit in and act like a "rat," and he wonders whether his friend Joey can teach him to toughen up or if he will remain a wimp.
