About “Humpty Dumpty in Oakland”

In 1950s San Francisco, Jim Ferguson, an elderly garage owner, plans to retire and sell his business. He is offered a significant deal by Chris Harman, a record-company owner. Al Miller, one of Jim's mechanics, believes Harman is dishonest and takes it upon himself to protect his mentor from what he sees as a scam. The story centers on Al's efforts to uncover the truth and prevent Jim from being taken advantage of. The novel explores themes of trust, deception, and loyalty. It is written by Philip K. Dick.
