About “Ideal”
Ideal is a story about Kay Gonda, a beautiful and tormented actress who is accused of murder and goes on the run. She seeks help from six fans who have written to her, each expressing how she represents their ideal—such as a respectable family man, a far-left activist, a cynical artist, an evangelist, a playboy, and a lost soul. Each man responds to her situation in a way that reveals his true self and values. The story was originally written as a novel by Ayn Rand in 1934 but was later transformed into a play. Both versions are now available, offering readers insight into Rand's creative process and the differences between the two forms.
