About “Manifesto of the Sixteen”

The Manifesto of the Sixteen was a document written in 1916 by Peter Kropotkin and Jean Grave, two well-known anarchists. The document supported the Allied victory over Germany and the Central Powers during the First World War. At the start of the war, Kropotkin and other anarchists who favored the Allies expressed their views in the Freedom newspaper, which drew strong criticism. As the war went on, anarchists across Europe took part in anti-war efforts and produced pamphlets and statements against the war. This included the Manifesto of the Thirty-Five, which was signed or supported by famous anarchists like Errico Malatesta, Emma Goldman, and Rudolf Rocker.
