About “Mourning Becomes Electra”

Mourning Becomes Electra is a play cycle written by American playwright Eugene O'Neill. It premiered on Broadway at the Guild Theatre on 26 October 1931 and ran for 150 performances before closing in March 1932. The original cast included Lee Baker as Ezra, Earle Larimore as Orin, Alice Brady as Lavinia, and Alla Nazimova as Christine. The play was revived in May 1932 at the Alvin Theatre, with Thurston Hall as Ezra, Walter Abel as Orin, Judith Anderson as Lavinia, and Florence Reed as Christine. A further revival took place in 1972 at the Circle in the Square Theatre, featuring Donald Davis as Ezra, Stephen McHattie as Orin, Pamela Payton-Wright as Lavinia, and Colleen Dewhurst as Christine.
