About “Nights in Rodanthe”

At forty-five, Adrienne Willis must rebuild her life after her husband leaves her for a younger woman. She travels to the small coastal town of Rodanthe, North Carolina, to care for a friend's inn. A major storm threatens her plans, but she meets Paul Flanner, a fifty-four-year-old man who has left his medical practice to escape his past. Together, they find comfort in each other during the storm, beginning a relationship that will have lasting effects. The novel was written by Nicholas Sparks, who also wrote The Notebook and A Walk to Remember. The names of the main characters, Adrienne and Paul, were given as Christmas gifts to Sparks' in-laws. This was Sparks' first book to debut at number one on the New York Times bestseller list. The story explores themes of love, forgiveness, and new beginnings.
