About “Omoo”
Omoo: A Narrative of Adventures in the South Seas is the second book by American writer Herman Melville, first published in London in 1847. It serves as a sequel to Typee, also based on the author's experiences in the South Pacific. The story follows a main character who leaves the island of Nuku Hiva and joins a whaling ship that travels to Tahiti. After a mutiny, a third of the crew is imprisoned on the island. In 1949, the narrative was adapted into an exploitation film titled Omoo-Omoo, the Shark God. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
