About “Opera Aperta”
Since the beginning of the century, works have emerged that can be organized in multiple ways: musical compositions whose parts can be linked according to the performer's choice, mobile sculptures, informal paintings, and semantic games, with Finnegans Wake as a model. This new type of work is described by U. Eco, who situates it within contemporary culture and the sciences, which increasingly emphasize chance. He also bases his analysis on information theory, questioning to what extent a work can remain communicative while remaining open.
