Arlo is the son of Aton, a conqueror and victim of a dreaded Minionette, and lives in a cavern-world where he has known no other existence. When war erupts in the caverns, Arlo becomes a confused spectator as exotic-armed invaders, including identical, fiery-haired, smokey-eyed warrior women known as minionettes—his own kin—arrive, forcing him to confront them and the superintelligence of Chthon while grappling with a destiny tied to a god older than mankind.
