This non-fiction work by Charles Dickens asks readers to take his reminiscences of different places on his own credentials as author, so that they might visit them in fancy more agreeably. Dickens notes that many books have been written on Italy providing extensive information on its history, and states he makes little reference to that stock of knowledge, not regarding it necessary to reproduce easily accessible material for his readers.
