About “Principles of Political Economy”
Principles of Political Economy (1848) by John Stuart Mill was a major political economy textbook in the mid-1800s. It went through multiple revisions, with the seventh edition published in 1871, just before Mill's death in 1873. The book addressed both descriptive and normative economic issues. It explored trade theories, such as comparative advantage, and examined ideal economic systems, including critiques of communism and socialism. Alongside A System of Logic, it helped establish Mill as a leading intellectual of his time. His sympathetic view of socialist ideas, especially Fourierism, earned him support from parts of the working class. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
