The Subjection of Women is an 1869 essay by Scottish philosopher, political economist, and civil servant John Stuart Mill, with ideas he developed jointly with his wife Harriet Taylor Mill. It argues for equality between the sexes largely on utilitarian grounds, attacking marriage laws and the idea that women are naturally worse at some things.
