About “Rage”

A 1977 novel by Stephen King follows a high-school student named Charlie Decker, who is struggling with authority and mental instability. After killing one of his teachers, he takes the rest of his class hostage. During a long, tense afternoon, Charlie recounts the events that led to his actions. He also analyzes and criticizes the personalities of his classmates, making each of them defend their place in the world. The story is told from Charlie's perspective and explores themes of alienation, anger, and the breakdown of social order.
