About “Sixth Column”
A novel by Robert A. Heinlein follows an Asian totalitarian government that conquers America quickly because the country has disarmed itself. A supersecret laboratory becomes the last hope for America after a major technological breakthrough. However, the experiment kills the lead researcher and most of the staff, leaving only a few men, one of whom is a scientist. A reserve intelligence major, who works as an advertising executive, arrives at the laboratory after the experiment. His mission is to use the laboratory's resources and the breakthrough to defend America and restore its freedom. The major must rely on his understanding of people to organize a resistance and effectively use the technology against the enemy. The story explores the challenges of fighting a regime that values no life and the dangers of great power in the hands of a few. The battle for freedom aims to return power to the people.
