About “State of Fear”

State of Fear is a 2004 techno-thriller novel by Michael Crichton, his fourteenth book under his own name and twenty-fourth overall. The story follows eco-terrorists who plan mass murder to draw attention to the dangers of global warming. The novel includes graphs, footnotes, two appendices, and a 20-page bibliography, intended to support Crichton's views on climate change. Many climate scientists, journalists, and environmental groups have criticized the book's scientific claims as inaccurate and misleading. It had an initial print run of 1.5 million copies and reached number one on Amazon and number two on the New York Times Best Seller list in January 2005. The book received mixed reviews, with some critics saying its focus on the global warming debate weakened the plot.
