About “The descent of man”

The Descent of Man is a 1871 book by Charles Darwin that expanded on his earlier work On the Origin of Species. In this book, Darwin proposed that human traits, such as language and morality, developed through the same natural processes that shaped other species. The book was a significant moment in science, presenting humans as products of evolution. A special abridged edition was created by Carl Zimmer, who selected nine key excerpts and wrote introductions for each. Zimmer also provided an overall introduction, connecting Darwin’s ideas to modern understandings of human nature and DNA research. His work helped make Darwin’s theories more accessible to contemporary readers.
