About “The Drowned World”
Fluctuations in solar radiation have melted the ice caps, leading to a new Triassic Age marked by extreme heat. London has transformed into a swamp, with tropical vegetation growing on the walls of the Ritz and reptiles swimming in lagoons. Some residents leave the city, while others stay to pursue scientific or financial endeavors. As the submerged streets are drained for treasure, Dr. Robert Kerans, part of a group of scientists, adapts to the submerged city and becomes resistant to the idea of saving it. The story is set in a 1962 novel by J. G. Ballard.
