In 1859, Lt. Jasper Hobson and members of the Hudson's Bay Company travel through the Northwest Territories of Canada to Cape Bathurst on the Arctic Ocean to establish a fort at 70 degrees north latitude. The party encounters altered physical laws after an earthquake, discovers they are on a drifting iceberg, and eventually survives after being rescued by a Danish whaling ship following the iceberg's passage through the Bering Strait and its arrival at a small island.
