About “The Old World Landowners”
The Old World Landowners is a short story written by Nikolai Gogol in 1835. It is the first story in the Mirgorod collection. Based on the Baucis and Philemon legend from Ovid's Metamorphoses, the story is both bittersweet and ironic. It is a straightforward narrative that reflects Gogol's mature style and suggests themes found in his later works. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
