About “The Razor's Edge”

This 1944 novel by William Somerset Maugham follows an American pilot who, after being traumatized by war, leaves behind his former life to seek a more meaningful existence. After two years of study in Paris, he travels and takes on various menial jobs. Though influenced by the people he meets, it is not until he reaches India that he begins to find peace. The story is based on the life of an acquaintance of the author.
