Vitals follows Hal Cousins, a scientist nearing a breakthrough in reversing the aging process, as he conducts experiments with deep-sea organisms in thermal plumes. After his identical twin brother is murdered and Hal survives an attack at sea, he returns to Seattle to confront a series of inexplicable events, including voices from the dead and a dangerous pursuit by a former historian, while uncovering that previous attempts to achieve immortality have left deadly consequences.
