In 1996, in Egypt, Dirk Pitt foils an assassination attempt on a U.N. scientist studying a disease causing madness and cannibalism among North Africans. The disease is linked to extreme pollution threatening the world's seas. Pitt and his team, aboard a high-tech yacht, face a billionaire industrialist and a West African tyrant while trying to prevent environmental disaster.
