Harry is assigned to the LAPD's Open Unsolved Unit with his partner, Kizmin Rider, forming the Closers. They take on a high-stakes case linking a white supremacist to the 1988 murder of a mixed-race girl. The case is politically charged and dangerous. Despite changes in the police department, Harry's old rival, Irving, remains. Once a powerful Deputy Chief, Irving has been demoted and given a meaningless position. Full of resentment, he calls Harry a 'retread' and watches him closely, hoping for a mistake.
