About “Fūga Wakashū”

The Fūga Wakashū, also known as the Fūgashū, is an imperial anthology of Japanese waka poetry compiled between 1344 and 1346 CE. It was compiled by Emperor Hanazono, who also wrote the Chinese and Japanese prefaces. The collection consists of twenty volumes containing 2,210 poems. It was one of only two imperial anthologies influenced by the Kyogoku and Reizei factions. As descendants of Fujiwara no Teika, these groups shaped the style of the anthology, which is seen as a continuation of his poetic traditions. Scholars Miner and Brower describe it as "the last of the great collections of Court poetry." (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
