About “Shokukokin Wakashū”
The Shokukokin Wakashū is a Japanese imperial anthology of waka, a form of classical Japanese poetry. It was completed in 1265, six years after the Retired Emperor Go-Saga commissioned it in 1259. The anthology was compiled by Fujiwara no Tameie with assistance from several other poets, including Fujiwara no Motoie, Fujiwara no Ieyoshi, Fujiwara no Yukiee, and Fujiwara no Mitsutoshi. Like other imperial poetry collections, it includes both a Japanese and a Chinese preface, though the authors of these prefaces are unknown. The work is divided into twenty volumes and contains 1,925 poems. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
