About “Laws”

The Laws is Plato's final and longest dialogue, structured in twelve books. The discussion starts with the question of who deserves credit for creating a civilization's laws. It explores themes of governance and law, often drawing comparisons to The Republic, one of Plato's more famous works. Some scholars believe the text reflects Plato's frustrations after failing to guide the ruler of Syracuse, Dionysius II, an event mentioned in the Seventh Letter. Unlike other Platonic dialogues, The Laws does not feature Socrates. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
