Sir Thomas Graham leads a British force to attack the French siege lines, but the operation fails, trapping the army. At Barrosa, Sharpe joins a desperate battle against the French, seeking revenge against the colonel responsible for his predicament. The battle ends in a costly victory, marking a significant moment in the Sharpe series. The novel, set in 1811, is the first new Sharpe story in over two years.
