Bernard Cornwell is a British author of historical fiction born in London on 23 February 1944, best known for the Sharpe series of novels following a rifleman's adventures through the Napoleonic Wars. He has also written the widely acclaimed Saxon Stories (The Last Kingdom) series chronicling the formation of England, and the Warlord Chronicles retelling Arthurian legend. Before turning to full-time writing, he worked in broadcasting for the BBC.
