In a world where travel is free and instant, automation meets everyone's basic needs, and war is a distant memory, religious gatherings of three or more are illegal. Instead, private "sensayers" offer spiritual guidance. Gendered language is outdated, and dressing as strongly male or female is deeply taboo. Nationality has faded, and people identify with one of seven global Hives, each with its own approach to life's big questions. However, this society is on the verge of collapse. Human conspiracies persist even in utopia, and a new force has emerged—Bridger, a child who can bring inanimate objects to life.
