About “Philoctetes”
Sophocles sets his drama on the desolate island of Lemnos, where the Greeks abandoned the wounded Philoctetes years earlier because of his festering, agonizing wound. Now a prophecy declares Troy cannot fall without him and his great bow. Odysseus arrives with young Neoptolemus, plotting to win the embittered outcast's trust by deceit.
