About “The Tale of the Body Thief”
The 1992 novel The Tale of the Body Thief is the fourth book in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles series. It follows Lestat, who is impulsive and driven, as he becomes involved with a serial killer in Southern Florida. A new character, Raglan James, a skilled vampire hunter, is introduced as Lestat's opponent. James offers Lestat a chance to switch bodies with a young mortal. Ignoring Louis' advice, Lestat agrees and quickly regrets the experience of being human. Meanwhile, James takes Lestat's vampire body. Louis refuses to help Lestat regain his vampire form, so Lestat seeks a mortal's aid to trick James into returning his body. The story explores themes of body and soul, focusing on soul migration and action.
