Anne Rice was an American author born on October 4, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana, whose vivid portrayals of the supernatural made her one of the most distinctive voices in gothic fiction. She is best known for The Vampire Chronicles, which began with Interview with the Vampire, and the Lives of the Mayfair Witches series, both of which drew heavily on her New Orleans roots and her fascination with immortality and the occult.
