Janner Wingfeather's father was the High King of Anniera, but the kingdom has fallen, and the royal family is on the run from the Fang armies of Gnag the Nameless. They seek refuge in the Green Hollows, a land known for its warriors. However, Janner's younger brother, the heir to the throne, has developed strange features—gray fur, a tail, pointed ears, and long fangs. To the people of the Green Hollows, he appears monstrous. Janner believes his brother is harmless, but he is unsure if this is truly the case. The 2011 novel by Andrew Peterson follows their journey and the challenges they face.
