Aleksandr Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799–1837) was a Russian poet, playwright, and novelist. He was born in Moscow and is considered one of the most influential literary figures of the 19th century. Pushkin is credited with laying the foundations of modern Russian literature and is regarded as the founder of the modern Russian literary language. He wrote in various genres, including poetry, drama, and prose. His works often mixed elements of drama, romance, and satire. Pushkin also worked as a literary critic, historian, and journalist. He was a prominent figure in Russian literature during his lifetime and is widely recognized as the greatest Russian poet. His most famous works include the novel in verse Eugene Onegin and the drama Boris Godunov. He died in Saint Petersburg in 1837 after being mortally wounded in a duel.
