About “The Shot”
The Shot is a short story by Alexander Pushkin, published in 1831 as the first in his collection The Tales of the Late Ivan Petrovich Belkin. The story takes place at a military outpost and later on a country estate. It explores themes of honor, revenge, and death within the context of Russian society. The main character is Silvio, a retired soldier who holds a long-standing grudge after being disrespected by the Count in front of his peers.
